Need Ice Dam Removal Now?

If water is leaking into your home from ice dams, don't wait. Active leaks cause damage every hour — to ceilings, walls, insulation, and potentially your home's structure.

Call (320) 203-1297 for emergency ice dam removal.

We respond quickly throughout Central Minnesota. Our steam removal process can often begin the same day or next day depending on conditions and schedule.

While you wait:
- Place buckets or containers to catch dripping water
- Move furniture and valuables away from wet areas
- If you can safely access your attic, note where water is entering
- Do NOT attempt to remove ice dams yourself from a ladder — it's extremely dangerous on icy surfaces

About the Service

Ice dams form when heat escaping from your attic melts snow on your roof. The water runs down to the cold eaves and refreezes, creating a dam that traps more water behind it. That trapped water backs up under your shingles and into your home.

In Central Minnesota, ice dams are a fact of life. Our winters create perfect conditions — heavy snow, extreme cold, and older homes that weren't built to modern insulation standards. While some winters are worse than others, most Minnesota homeowners will deal with ice dams at some point.

The damage ice dams cause isn't always obvious. Water seeping into your attic can soak insulation (reducing its effectiveness), rot roof decking and rafters, damage ceilings and walls, and create conditions for mold growth. By the time you see water stains inside, significant damage may have already occurred.

Zablocki Roofing has been removing ice dams in the St. Cloud area for over 25 years. We use professional steam equipment to remove ice safely and completely, without the damage that improper removal causes.

Let us remove your ice dam!

Our ice dam removal process uses low-pressure steam to melt ice safely. This is the only removal method recommended by roofing professionals — and there's an important reason why.

Why steam, not chipping or hacking?

Some contractors attack ice dams with shovels, picks, or even chainsaws. This might clear the ice faster, but it damages your shingles. In cold temperatures, shingles become brittle. Striking them with tools cracks the shingles, breaks their seals, and often causes more damage than the ice dam itself. We've repaired many roofs that were destroyed by improper ice dam "removal."

How our steam removal works:

Our equipment heats water and delivers it as low-pressure steam at the correct temperature to melt ice efficiently without damaging roofing materials. The steam cuts through ice quickly while the temperature stays in a range that won't harm your shingles.

We work systematically across the dam, creating channels for trapped water to drain before removing the entire ice mass. This prevents the sudden release of water that can flood your soffit and fascia areas.

Our technicians are experienced with Minnesota roofs. We know how to access your roof safely in winter conditions, how to navigate different roof pitches and materials, and how to clear ice completely so it doesn't immediately reform.

Should You Remove Your Ice Dam?

We're often asked whether ice dams really need to be removed, or if homeowners should just wait for spring. Here's how to decide:

Remove ice dams immediately if:

- You see water stains on ceilings or walls
- Water is actively dripping inside your home
- Ice dams are very large (extending more than a foot up your roof)
- You notice ice forming inside your attic or soffit area
- The forecast shows warming temperatures followed by more snow (this cycle makes dams worse)

Monitor but consider removal if:

- Ice dams are present but you see no interior water damage
- The forecast shows extended cold with no warming cycles
- Ice dams are relatively small and not growing

The risk of waiting:

Ice dams don't always leak immediately. Water can be seeping into your roof structure without visible interior signs. By the time you see damage inside, weeks of hidden moisture damage may have occurred. The cost of ice dam removal is almost always less than the cost of repairing water damage, replacing soaked insulation, and addressing mold issues.

When in doubt, call us. We can assess your situation and give you an honest recommendation on whether removal is urgent or can wait.
